I don't want to admit this, but it is harder to motivate yourself in the cold days of December to cycle into work, especially when a 7.30 am start is required. As we approached autumn, I told myself that only total wusses would slacken off once the trees start looking bare. But it is harder! Dressing up warm is no problem, but very little apart from a full face mask can protect my face from feeling the full brunt of crisp (read icy) winter air rushing into it. I've decided not to opt for the full face mask for the main reason that I would look ridiculous, and whilst I don't usually care what I look like, especially on a bike, this lack of care in this instance would be a step too far in my opinion.
Anyway I have got into cycling at least twice a week and that is good enough for me until the frosts thaw.
The 'challenge of a lifetime' is looking a little closer. The leaving date has been pushed back for logistical reasons, but the actuality of it happening is firmer. We definitely need to start doing some serious training, and book in some weekends of full day and several day rides. Coast to coast is on the list and has been in the back of my head for a few years. Very excited.
