Our longest ride yet! In fact three full days of cycling and a little bit more. We just returned from completing the coast to coast bike ride. We started in South Shields on the east coast of England near Newcastle, and finished in St Bees near Whitehaven on the west coast. Approx 130 miles and a full on head wind all the way. (That explains why 70% of cyclists go the other direction!) It was tough but very worth it. Lots of hills, a variety of weather but stunning scenery. My favourite kind – wilderness, not many people and a connection with the elements which refreshes the soul. The Lake District was wonderful, quite a contrast from the Pennines which were bleak and blustery, but both were so different to what we’re used to in the South. It was great to just cycle all day and really made us think hard about what we are undertaking in the summer. Was definitely a wake up call to do more training!
