67 miles
Despite spending the night in virtual ghost town, I had the best night sleep ever! We woke early but not as early as some of the other cyclists we were camped with who had already set up by the time we got up at 6.30 am. After breakfasting with some particularly unrepentant mosquitos we bid farewell to westbounders Steve and Shae and got on the road.
To be honest today's journey was not the most exciting. In all 67 miles we stayed on the same road (which we have been on for a few days now) and only went through two places which were actually just gas stations. The terrain was rolling with a few hills as we went over the Continental Divide twice and the scenery was vast scrubland with the odd herd of cows. Also as we got nearer to Rawlins the traffic got heavier, noticeably more truck traffic and the shoulder was a bit sketchy in parts.
We arrived in Rawlins by 2 though which was good going and have checked into a campground which is perched on a hill and enjoying some terrific gusts of wind. Hopefully we won't alight in the middle of the night. We shouldn't after the enormous Thai meal we've just eaten.
It was great to camp with others last night and share stories and recommendations of things we'd seen and places we'd gone through. It feels like we are leaving the north west of the US now and in a few days will be in our fifth state, Colorado. It really feels like we are now pushing on through the country having already done over 1,500 miles to date.
